The boom that “Cabo” is going through is quite obvious even to the lightest observer, and if your first time visiting the Baja was twenty years ago, not to mention more, you have probably seen some of the changes the tip of this Peninsula has gone through.
Fifty years ago, Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo and its surrounding areas, were rustic and simple Mexican towns dedicated to fishing. In 1956, the One and Only Palmilla Hotel was constructed and was only accessible by boat or private planes. It later became a more accessible community when the Transpeninsular Highway was built circa 1970. Forty years ago, Pedregal in Cabo San Lucas was developed, and is still to this day a prestigious community where Real Estate is coveted. In the 60s and 70s, surfer ex-pats came down to the Baja to inhabit the Gringo Hill and Costa Azul areas, where they could watch the surf break from their terrazas. Only twenty years ago, typical Baja unpaved streets and lack of phone lines is what you would find in Cabo. The great variety of hotels, restaurants and shopping that you see today is fairly new. Any local can tell you the comical phrase: “Cabo B.C.,” which means “Cabo Before Costco.”
Today, large construction sites line-up the tourist corridor, an area where San Jose del Cabo residents had their weekend beach homes many moons ago. Now, this hotel row is transforming the Transpeninsular Corridor into the epicenter of Los Cabos’ resorts. This NEW CABO construction boom has also brought the development of new Real Estate communities. From turn-key modern condominiums on the marina such as The Paraiso Residences, and affordable town homes with sweeping views of Land’s End like Duara Ocean View Villas, to ultra-luxurious master planned communities such as Twin Dolphin and Chileno Bay, Los Cabos Real Estate development is promising to offer many options for those looking into investing in their perfect vacation -or forever- home.
The Paraiso Residences, a new private residential development situated on the top floor of the Puerto Paraiso Mall on the Cabo San Lucas Marina, is being called Cabo’s hottest new address for urban living. “The Paraiso Residences are special. It’s not every day that those in the market for a second home find something like this. It’s really a best-case buying scenario — great homes in a great location at an exceptional price,” said Tracy Wageman, Director of Sales at The Paraiso Residences. “There are no other properties like this in Cabo. Nothing gets you this close to the Marina and the Plaza at such a welcoming price.” Earlier this year, The Paraiso Residences wrapped up a successful reservation program which demonstrated the demand for these residences. With the initial launch of 58 residences, founding members not only secured their residence, but in many cases, they purchased additional ones. Buyers cited the value and investment opportunity as reasons for buying in multiples.
PromoCasa, a Mexican Development Company with 23 years of experience has introduced Duara Ocean View Villas & Condos into the Cabo San Lucas Real Estate market. “The concept of a smart home is emerging, and technology will become a differentiating factor. In 2016 we opened two new communities in Los Cabos and Culiacán. Both are middle-income products that can appeal to returning Mexicans and Americans alike, and even to tourists,” said Jorge Mario Arreola Real, CEO of PromoCasa in an article in Time Magazine. This development stands out from the rest because of the innovative urban design with multiple green areas and parks designed with families in mind, and not to mention the amazing views of Land’s End.
Located on the site of the former iconic Hotel Twin Dolphin between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo, Twin Dolphin is the newest premier master-planned community in Los Cabos, México. Encompassing 1,400 acres, Twin Dolphin includes Maravilla Los Cabos, a private residential community and club open today, Montage Residences Los Cabos, a five-star resort and residences opening early 2018, a Fred Couples Signature Golf Course and the Twin Dolphin Golf Club, opening in late 2018, as well as future restaurants, shops, and more. Maravilla Los Cabos features effortless ownership and world-class amenities. Starting at $3M, the residential offerings includes villas, townhomes, custom homes, and custom homesites. Some amenities include a 60,000 square-foot clubhouse, a beach club on Santa Maria Bay, an 18-hole putting course, an indoor THX theater, and much more. Montage Residences Los Cabos offers 5-star resort living at its finest. Starting at $2.7M, the two and three-bedroom turnkey residences feature open floor plans that highlight indoor-outdoor living. A 20,000 square-foot resort pool, multiple dining options, and a dedicated staff, concierge and optional rental program, are only a few of the amenities available to owners in this prestigious community.
These are just some of the many new residential developments in Los Cabos. Observing the rapid growth pattern of the Southern Baja area allows us to imagine that this is only the beginning of a grand expansion of Los Cabos, with still undeveloped areas such as the East Cape, just north-east of San Jose del Cabo, and the pristine land on the Pacific side just north of Cabo San Lucas. More and more flights from the United States and Canada are making it easier to fly into the Los Cabos International airport, transforming this once sleepy Mexican fishing town into the newest desirable international destination.
